The WASHplus Consumer Cookstove Toolkit

This consumer research toolkit is designed to help cookstove-related businesses and organizations to collect information from and about potential consumers for more effective design, selection, promotion, and sale of improved cookstoves (ICS). Stakeholders can use that information to design approaches that best support complete adoption and correct and consistent use of the technologies most acceptable to the target group.

SPLASH School Outcome Study

The SPLASH School Outcome Study investigated the effect of a full WASH in Schools program on absenteeism and teacher-pupil contact time in the context of the USAID-funded Schools Promoting Learning Achievement through Sanitation and Hygiene (SPLASH) project in Zambia. The study was conducted in three intervention and three control districts. SPLASH implemented a comprehensive WASH in Schools program in the intervention districts (Mambwe, Chipata, and Lundazi), located in the Eastern Province.

Final Report: Developing and Testing Innovative WASH Approaches in Ethiopia

This report was prepared by iDE as part of an effort to develop a sanitation marketing approach to stimulate local markets to provide sustainable sanitation solutions in rural Ethiopia. This report details the work done on refining sanitation products and business models, researching pit collapse issues, developing sales management strategies, and implementing trainings conducted for business and sales agents. It also includes challenges encountered, opportunities, and next steps in scale-up.

Laying the Groundwork to Scale Up Sanitation Marketing in Ethiopia, A Learning Brief

Mali End of Project Report

The WASHplus project, led by FHI 360 with CARE USA as a core partner, created and supported interventions leading to improvements in WASH and explored and promoted innovation in the WASH sector, including integrating WASH into related areas such as nutrition. In 2012, USAID/ Mali requested WASHplus to submit a plan for an integrated WASH and nutrition project in the Mopti region of Mali.

Menstrual Hygiene Management among Schoolgirls in Eastern Province of Zambia

The overall purpose of this study was to identify the experiences and challenges schoolgirls faced in hygienically managing menstruation during school hours and explore its effects on school attendance and learning. Research that examines the ways in which MHM influences girls’ daily lives and freedom to learn in the Zambian context is lacking. Therefore, the research described below was implemented with the following objectives:

Baseline Survey on Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Related Neglected Tropical Diseases

This report presents the results of a baseline comparative study conducted in two districts, Manni, a high intervention district (HID), and Bogandé, a low intervention district (LID). Both districts are located in Gnagna Province in Burkina Faso. The baseline survey interviewed 1,296 caregivers of children aged one to nine years. It was conducted to obtain a better understanding of the situation in these two districts with regard to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and related neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

WASHplus Consumer Research Toolkit

The toolkit provides guidance on how to undertake consumer preference research on improved cooking technologies through Trials of Improved Practice (TIPs), including guidance in using associated data collection, entry, and analysis tools based on CSPro software available for free online.
